Japanese networking and infrastructure giant NTT Communications is planning to establish a new subsidiary that will focus on managed IT services.
Atlas IT – a British company that became part of the NTT Communications Group in 2009 – will become the foundation for this new business, with additional investment from NTT to build and expand on its remote infrastructure and application management capability.
“With the financial support of NTT Com we believe the new NTT Com Managed Services business will help us realize our ambition to be a global leader in managed networks, infrastructure and application management,” said Shigeru Kitabatake, SVP of Managed Services at NTT Com.
New markets
NTT Com is a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, the largest telecommunications company in the world in terms of revenue. It was established by the Japanese government in 1952, and around a third of its shares are still owned by the state.
NTT Com runs a network of more than 130 data centers worldwide, serving 196 countries and regions. In 2009, it acquired Atlas IT – a company with offices in London and Barcelona that offers managed services, with a focus on small to medium-sized businesses in EMEA, North America, Asia and Australia.
In April, Atlas IT will be absorbed by NTT Com Managed Services. The new company will be led by Damian Skendrovic the current CEO of Atlas IT and board director at both Gyron and NTT Europe.
“After several years of successful growth, I am delighted that Atlas IT has been chosen to lead the global expansion of NTT Com’s managed services business. With the direct backing of NTT Com we are well positioned to realize our global ambitions and better serve our expanding global customer base,” Skendrovic said.
