The assumption of 5G is that there will be almost 2 billion subscribers by 2024. Each of these subscribers will likely be using over 300GB of data by then. New applications for the Edge will be enabled by 5G that drive bandwidth, compute and storage requirements that we cannot capture effectively right now. In effect, the Edge and by default 5G marketplace is similar to the internet in 1992, an interesting capability without much in the way of understood business models. Look how much that changed by 1995/96. Millions of applications and environments created that were never even considered just a few years earlier. How is this likely to effect Data Centers and other core infrastructure?
