Phil Hughes from Clustered Systems talks about the company’s unusual cooling solution

In this interview Phil Hughes, co-founder and CEO of Clustered Systems, explains how the company’s approach to liquid cooling enables data center operators to deploy hundreds of CPUs per rack.

Clustered Systems places stainless steel plates between the servers and extracts heat using water, enabling rack-level cooling. According to Hughes, this model is especially suitable for High Performance Computing, or colocation facilities that need to extend their space on a short notice.

He is quick to dispel any concerns about leakage – the cooling systems have been designed to keep water away from the board, minimize the number of hoses and eliminate ‘make-break’ connections.

Clustered Systems cooling kit is now being evaluated by the Open Compute Project community.

The conversation took place at the DCD Colo + Cloud conference in Dallas.
