Storage vendor NetApp has launched two new storage systems to address different sectors of the market.

The high end FAS8080 EX is aimed at data centers looking for achieve ‘extreme performance’ while the low end FAS2500 is described as an entry level ‘value product’ for smaller data centers.

The FAS8080 EX is aimed at data centers with performance-intensive SAN and NAS workloads at the largest scale, according to NatApp, which it described as its ‘most powerful, patented scale-out array ever’.

The system is capable of 4 million input-output operations per second (IOPS) and can be configured either as an all-flash array with 4.6 petabytes (PB) of flash storage or as a hybrid array with half a petabyte of flash cache.

NetApp claims the devices can be upgraded to 70PB of capacity and 600 I/O connections in data centers with a need to consolidate large workloads.

The entry-level FAS2500 hybrid arrays are designed to be simple plug and play systems that can simplify installation while keeping the user’s options open for future upgrades.

The device’s expanded flash support is designed to accelerate workloads by up to 46% and boost usable capacity by 48%.

George Kurian, NetApp executive VP said: “This is our highest-performance system ever and our best value entry level product.  We can make storage infrastructures substantially more efficient.”

  • Smart Choices for your Digital Infrastructure

    Tue, 28 Jun 2016 10:00:00

Your data centre is a key part of successfully transforming and building your digital business. The challenge today is to create a highly reliable, flexible, scalable and cost-effective digital infrastructure. Your cabling system is an important element in the creation of that infrastructure. Attend and learn how to: - Piece together different elements of standards, technical specifications and physical properties in order to choose the right networking equipment - Reduce the time and labour spent maintaining, repairing or installing cabling by adopting improved design and management practices.

  • Designing Flexibility into your Data Center Power Infrastructure

    Wed, 4 May 2016 18:00:00

As power density is rapidly increasing in today’s data center, provisioning the right amount of power to the rack without under sizing or over provisioning the power chain has become a real design challenge. Managing the current and future power needs of the data center requires Cap-Ex to deploy a flexible power infrastructure: safely handling peak power demands, balancing critical loads and easily scaling to meet growing power needs. In this webinar you will learn: > How to create Long term power flexibility and improved availability for your operation > How to increase energy efficiency and improve SLAs through a comprehensive set of best practices.
