28.37% of all statistics are made up ...

I see that Gartner have predicted that the Australian data-centre population will peak in 2012 at 49,577 facilities.  I'd like to start another just to screw the accuracy of the number!  But how can they, in all seriousness, publish such drivel?  As it is impossible to get more than one person to agree to a definition of what a data-centre actually is (from one cabinet with compute, storage and I/O up to a few thousand square metres?) the very fact that someone actually arrived at the 49,577 figure is amazing.  If you compare Australia with the UK you could 'guestimate' a figure of 25,000 above 100kW/70 square meters - or have I just made that up .... and what about this 'peaking'?  Are the Aussies falling out of love with 4G, social networks, eBay, Facebook, YouTube & home HD-video downloads?  I doubt it very much; rumours of their death have been greatly exaggerated etc
