A state-level economic development organization in Wyoming has recommended a data center expansion project in Cheyenne by the data center services provider Green House Data for a US$2.25m grant.

The Wyoming Business Council made the decision Thursday, endorsing the company, Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported. The grant would help fund construction of a 35,000 sq ft facility, a project whose total cost is expected to be about $35m.

Green House Data now has to wait for the final decision from the State Loan and Investment Board. The Business Council's recommendation is contingent on a set of conditions, including a project-financing plan and execution of agreements.

Its existing data center in Cheyenne is a 10,000 sq ft facility and employs 16 people. It was built in 2007 and is now at capacity.

The additional build is expected to add 25 more jobs to the local economy, according to the local news service.

Green House Data's other data centers are in Newark, New Jersey, and Portland, Oregon. It provides colocation, managed services, hosting and cloud-infrastructure services.
