Georgia-based T5 Data Centers has started construction on its 200,000 sq ft facility in Hillsboro, Oregon a year later than planned and has already leased the first building to a Fortune 100 company.

The T5@Portland building is being constructed in ‘Silicon Forest’ - home to tech companies and giants including Microsoft and Google - and will consist of two separate buildings, the second building standing at 110,000 sq ft and is already looking to lease the facility.

According to T5 the buildings are being constructed to coincide LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver specification. The facility will also benefit from the coastal Pacific Northwest climate which will minimize cooling costs and maximize power usage effectiveness (PUE) T5 said.

T5@Portland’s facilities are purpose-built and offer server-ready IT solutions capable of housing multiple independent data center tenants.

According to T5 the Portland buildings will have ‘extremely’ reliable power from two redundant power feeds into the facility and are being designed as high-performance, highly efficient, seismic secure, purpose-built data centers.

The Oregon area offers a number of economic incentives, including tax exemptions to stimulate e-commerce and technology companies, including significant sales and property tax benefits.

The T5@Portland data centers are expected to be ready for occupancy in early summer 2015.
