Delta Air Lines has sold its data center in Eagan, Minnesota, to a subsidiary of Digital Realty Trust and signed an eight-year lease for the facility with the San Francisco-based wholesale data center landlord.

Digital Towerview (the subsidiary) bought the 150,000 sq ft building for US$37m, according to a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal report, which cited local county records.

Digital is one of the world's largest data center owners. Its portfolio consists of about 120 properties, totaling about 22.2m sq ft.

While Eagan is not a massive data center market, there are some substantial mission-critical properties there. Examples include a Thomson Reuters data center, launched in 2008, and a facility operated by Five 9s Digital, a data center provider.

Digital expands through both acquisitions and construction of new data centers.

It announced its latest expansion earlier this week, saying it had bought a 120,000 sq ft building in the Toronto market for C$8.65m. Digital plans to build out data center space in the building as demand permits.
