US data center provider Quality Technology Services (QTS) will open its 700,000 sq ft ‘mega’ data center next week, a few weeks later than scheduled, in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

The Texan facility is built over 40 acres with the space to double the data centers footprint. QTS refurbished the former semiconductor plant site removing 4.5 million tons of recyclable materials from the site including stainless steel.

The carrier-neutral site has 230,000 sq ft of raised floor space and is QTS’s 12^th data center in the US.

In July QTS said it had pre-sold approximately 26,000 sq ft of raise floor space at the Dallas site and expects many internet and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies will use the facility.

Going green
QTS said it is focusing its efforts on saving energy and has designed the Dallas-Fort Worth facility in line with green building certification program LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines in a bid to gain certification.

QTS has two facilities certified to LEED Gold Certification - Atlanta-Metro (Phase II) and Richmond, Virginia.
