The president and chairman of The Green Grid, John Tuccillo, is standing down, to spend more time at his job with Schneider Electric.

The Green Grid, best known for creating the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric, is an industry body aiming to improve data center efficiency. Tuccillo has led it since its creation in 2006 and public launch in 2007.

It's not easy being green

"My deep commitment made this a hard decision for me," said Tuccillo, who is stepping down because of increased responsibility at Schneider where he is now vice president of global industry and government alliances. "Balancing the demands of this new role with my commitments to and passion for The Green Grid makes now the right time for me to seek a new way to serve, and for new members to lead our global organization."

The Green Grid has proposed standards for water usage and carbon emissions produced by data centers, but its most successful work remains PUE, which has been successfully proposed to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as the basis for an international standard.

The president and chairman roles will pass to Roger Tipley, who also works at Schneider, and has been vice president of the Green Grid. The new vice president will be Rona Newmark of EMC, and Pam Lembke of the Green Grid will become secretary.
