Cologix, a Denver-based colocation and interconnection player, has acquired the JAX Meet Me Room data center located in a carrier hotel at 421 W. Church St. in Jacksonville, Florida. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

JMMR is densely connected and the building it is in is the most important telecom building in the region, according to Cologix. The company expects the region to emerge as a key interconnection point in southeastern US in the near future, and the deal is a strategic one, based on that expectation.

Grant van Rooyen, president and CEO of Cologix, said a submarine cable slated to land in Jacksonville would create an opportunity for network operators to pipe traffic directly to South America without the cost, latency and hurricane risk of pushing traffic through Miami, a major interconnection hub and gateway into South America.

“We are pleased to bring the JAX Meet Me Room business and customers into the Cologix platform,” he added. “We have already initiated plans to make significant incremental investments in this facility to enhance infrastructure and expand capacity to support new networks interested in establishing a presence in Jacksonville.”

The JAX Meet Me Room operates about 9,000sq ft in the carrier hotel as well as the building's meet-me room. More than 20 carriers and a range of financial, cloud and enterprise customers are using its services.

Cologix currently operates 16 data centers in Dallas, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
