TelecityGroup announced this week acquisitions of data center providers in two Eastern European capitals, furthering its program of expansion into new strategic markets in Europe.

One of the providers, 3DC, is located in Sofia, Bulgaria, which, according to the London-based data center service provider, is a strategic location in the Balkans with access to markets in the EU, Turkey and the Caucasus.

Zdravko Nikolov, former CEO of 3DC who has become managing director of TelecityGroup's business in Bulgaria, said, “With Bulgaria establishing itself as the one of the fastest growing internet hubs in Europe, combining our business with Europe’s leading provider of data centers is an exciting move for 3DC.”

The other acquisition is of a Polish company PLIX, a colocation services provider based in Warsaw. The deal includes Poland's largest internet exchange of the same name. The exchange has about 220 members and 300Gbps peak throughput.

Sylwester Biernacki, founder and CEO of PLIX who has been put in charge of TelecityGroup Poland, said the counry was quickly becoming an important European and international internet hub. “The agreement to combine our business with Europe’s leading data center provider will be a tremendous opportunity for PLIX and the region as a whole.”

TelecityGroup's data center portfolio has previously consisted of locations in Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Paris, Sofia and Stockholm.
