Data center services supplier SSE Enterprise Telecoms today launched its high-capacity, resilient optical networking service, Lightnow, in Manchester offering 1Gbps and 10Gbps wavelength connectivity.
The service, which is based on Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, is equipped with WaveLogic coherent optics and connects nine of the busiest data centers in Manchester as well as offering meshed connectivity into 21 London facilities that have already been successfully enabled via the system.
The first Manchester data centers to be connected are DataCentred, Dock 10 (Media City), M247, UKFast (MaNOC 6), and five Telecity-owned facilities.

Colin Sempill, managing director of SSE Enterprise Telecoms, said that the company was responding to “the fact that increasingly more data center managers were choosing to use a combination of data centers to best suit the requirements of their data - whether that be high security, maximum availability or the need for speed - but they weren’t willing to compromise on service.”
