Memset, the UK cloud and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider, is offering a free Docker service, that lets developers try the container service without paying for a full subscription.

All Memset’s virtual machines will now have the latest version of the Docker containerization technology pre-installed, and customers can choose it as an option when starting up a cloud server. Their Ubuntu image will have the registry mirror pre-configured allowing them to create containers from within any application.

Low prices to lure in developers?

Memset suggests developers can set up a virtual server just to experiment with running a few services as containers, and then shut it down, only paying for the time it was live: The provider’s virtual servers start at £3.25 per month. 

“This one-click install application of Docker provides many of the benefits of PaaS, but delivered on a flexible, scalable infrastructure platform, which is what Memset provides,” Juan Martinez, Memset development manager. 

Memset also promised it is working on containers with additional features to make it easier for users to manage containerized applications.
