British colocation and cloud service provider C4L has started offering customers free Wi-Fi at the majority of 51 Points of Presence (PoPs) it operates in the UK. These include facilities owned by City Lifeline, Telehouse and DRT.

C4L says free connectivity will enable network engineers to instantly test availability of their colocated servers and file reports while maintaining high security standards.

Best things in life are free

C4L operates its own data center in Bournemouth, UK and runs the coreTX dark fiber network that connects more than 100 facilities across the country.

The company began rolling out free Wi-Fi on 18 October and says it has proved quite popular, with more than 1000 unique devices logging into the network in the space of two and a half months.

The network supports smartphones and tablets, and there are no restrictions on the amount of traffic.

“We recognized the need for this service based on our own experience, which taught us that network engineers can really benefit from a separate internet connection within a DC, and we wanted to provide this service to all professionals within the industry,” explained Agodo Dumbe, installation technician at C4L.

“The Internet connection is isolated from the main infrastructure, so is does not affect any security within the Data Centre environment, and really helps out data centre and network engineers who are working in our DC environments.”
