AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) has launched an AMS-IX New York Point of Presence (PoP) at US-based Sabey Data Center Properties’ 1m sq ft Intergate.Manhattan facility.

AMS-IX said its New York exchange is the only distributed and neutral Open-IX certified Internet exchange in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area.

The exchange has already signed internet television network Netflix and wholesale carrier solutions provider IX Reach with a further 16 additional customers applying for a connection.

Open-IX is an initiative started by a group on Internet network operators, content owners and distributors that encourages the development of the neutral and distributed Internet exchange model in the US.

Its aim is to reduce interconnection complexity and associated costs in the US.

Sabey Data Center’s president John Sabey said Open-IX gives users and carriers the ability to connect and peer traffic in across the US and Europe.

“Offering more choice in the New York City market to carriers and customers is good for everyone,”  Sabey said.

Intergate.Manhattan is a 32-storey facility with “state-of-the-art” climate control and electrical systems.
