Raritan has released a new version of its Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software dcTrack. The company announced the update, dcTrack 2.6, Wednesday.

The solution can now fully model network and power circuits, enabling users to design networks and power circuits faster, identify stranded capacity, or find appropriate places for new pieces of equipment.

James Cerwinski, software manager at Raritan, said the upgraded solution frees data center managers from relying on Microsoft’s Excel and Visio – tools that were not designed for data center management – to build and manage network and power connections.

“It eliminates wasting time physically tracing among the racks [to find out] how things are connected each time you want to make a change,” he said.

Visualization in this version is done through a web interface, which shows circuits end to end, including all intermediate nodes and providing detailed information about each node or connection point. The solution’s “circuit builder” function is flexible enough to model any data network topology going through any number of patch panels, the vendor says.

Network-modeling capabilities include views of virtual ports and their connections with physical hosts.

Power-path modeling can be done from the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) through to the servers and switches.

dcTrack maintains real-time views of devices in the data center, providing details about each device. The solution can track devices across multiple sites. It can also provide real-time data on power consumption, heat dissipation and floor space.

Raritan’s power and environmental monitoring solution is called Power IQ. dcTrack 2.6 is available pre-integrated with Power IQ as a package.

Raritan is a major player in the DCIM space, where it competes with Schneider, Emerson, nlyte, Power Assure, Sentilla, Modius and Rackwise, among others.
