Honeywell is setting up an operations support center that will allow helicopter fleets around the world to communicate through its data center in Redmond, Washington.
The engineering and aerospace support company already provides a range of aerospace services from its data center, from flight planning and scheduling to reporting of carbon emissions, weather information and other flight tools.
It has also serviced the chemical, electronic materials and automotive industries providing datalink communications via Inmarsat satellite, including to government and corporate aircraft.
According to a report by Shephard Media, which covers the defence space, Honeywell’s new support services will now focus on smaller users wanting to send text messages and voice communications and carry out automated tracking from helicopter.
It said such a system is already in use by helicopters working in the Gulf of Mexico – popular for its oil and gas installations, where helicopters use a system called Sky Connect.
It requires helicopters to have a system fitted to provide real time information, including fuel status and alarms and time stamps.
