Sprint, operator of one of the largest wireless telecom networks in the US and a global internet carrier, is extending its network into TelecityGroup’s new data center in Manchester, UK.
The client chose the facility because there is growing connectivity demand in Europe, driven primarily by enterprise cloud services. Telecity customers at the new facility – which has not yet been launched – will benefit from the deal from another low-latency US connectivity option.
Manchester was a key location for Sprint because of the city’s rapid growth and its status as one of UK’s primary business and technology hubs.
Photobucket renews Latisys contract
Photobucket has renewed its colocation contract with Latisys. The photo and video sharing service will continue using Latisys’s US data centers to host its infrastructure.
Denver-based Photobucket has 100m users and hosts more than 9bn images and videos. This requires high bandwidth which Latisys has been able to provide for the past five years.
The client will be using facilities across the data center provider’s national footprint. Latisys has data centers in Denver, South California, Chicago and Northern Virginia regions.
Credit union takes space with Colo5
GTE Federal Credit Union has signed on for colocation and disaster recovery services by Colo5. The non-profit US cooperative will use the provider’s data center in Jacksonville, Florida.
The infrastructure supports 21 financial centers that serve nearly 200,000 members in the US, providing a range of financial services for businesses and individuals.
GTE VP of member systems and IT Anthony Bender said the main reason for choosing the Colo5 data center was its location. In addition to Jacksonville being the best location logistically, it was also cost effective, he added.
