VMware has launched its cloud solutions and virtualization marketplace, the VMware Solution Exchange, designed to help companies find solutions for public and private cloud.

The Solution Exchange provides applications and infrastructure products from more than 2,000 technology partners, and has information on 3,500 applications and 6,000 infrastructure products.

VMware VP of Global Strategic Alliances Parag Patel said the exchange is built on premise that more people are using social networking tools to share and discover information, and the exchange provides users with a similar experience.

"We are offering our robust partner network a new and centralized marketplace to promote their solutions and directly connect with customers to help expedite the sales process,” Patel said.

“For customers, our goal is to empower them to quickly and easily find the resources they need to make purchasing decisions to accelerate their journey to the cloud, while also helping our technology partners deliver and manage joint solutions in a single, self-service location.”

Similar to consumer-type tools, the exchange offers a five-star rating system and user-generated feedback. It also offers information on compatibility with third-party solutions
