The Green Grid, the data center industry group famous for its Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric for data center energy efficiency, is planning to launch a metric designed to rate organizations’ IT recycling practices, The Green Grid executives told DatacenterDynamics.
“That work has been going on this year and the team that’s been working on it has been spread across a number of different companies” and across different regions, John Tuccillo, president of The Green Grid said about the upcoming IT recycling metric for enterprises and data centers.
He did not provide any details, since the work has not been finalized. The organization expects to unveil the metric – along with details – at its upcoming forum in the Silicon Valley in March, Tuccillo said.
This will be The Green Grid’s fifth annual forum, also marking the organization’s fifth anniversary.
About one year ago, the organization widened the scope of its mission beyond data center energy efficiency to work on companies’ overall sustainability. Mark Monroe, the organization’s executive director, said the program for this year’s forum would reflect that broader scope.
“This year we … tried to focus on the three pillars of resource-efficient computing,” he said. These pillars are technology, business and sustainability. Expected release of the IT recycling metric at the event falls into the sustainability category.
