Equinix and government and enterprise-focussed services provider Carpathia Hosting are building a 64,000 sq ft data center in Dulles, Virginia, US for industry-specific solutions.

The data center, which will be built as a Platform Equinix facility, will be built adjacent to Carpathia’s existing Dulles facility, which is built using Digital Realty Trust’s Turn-Key Datacenter modular solutions.

Digital Realty Trust is also partnering with Carpathia and Equinix for the IBX Vault facility, which will focus on services for federal agencies, healthcare companies and commercial industries.

Carpathia Hosting CEO Peter Weber said the Tier III  IBX Vault will have multiple Tier 1 telecommunications carriers and will offer fiber connections to other Washington DC-metro area IBX data centers, opening up access to more than 650 providers of internet as well as peering and Ethernet and wide area network services sitting on Platform Equinix.

It will support 7.3 MW of power and be N+1 power redundant.

“With the new IBX Vault, our customers get access to an unparalleled combination in the industry; a data center built to Equinix’s rigorous standards as well as our industry-leading complex, compliant managed hosting and cloud services,” Weber said.

These include compliance standards for FISMA, DIACAP, HIPAA, PCI and SOX.

Equinix America President Charles Meyers said the new data center will allow Equinix to further support compliance requirements of its federal and commercial customers in the Washington DC metro area.

“By expanding our partnership with Carpathia, we will be able to provide even more extensive solutions for federal agencies, healthcare companies and enterprises that require higher levels of security and compliance,” Meyers said.

Armed guards, perimeter fencing and multi-level biometric scanners are just some of the security features planned for the new data center.
