Stock exchange operator BATS has chosen a Savvis data center in Chicago to serve as a disaster recovery (DR) site for all three of its US markets, the company said Wednesday.

Once BATS moves its infrastructure, Savvis – a subsidiary of CenturyLink – will be the provider of both primary and DR data centers for matching engines and trading infrastructure for BATS’ equities exchanges BZX and BYX, as well as its equity-options market BATS Options. The primary data center currently hosting this equipment is Savvis’ facility in Weehawken, N.J.

BATS COO Chris Isaacson said Savvis had a proven track record hosting the exchange operator’s infrastructure and the client was pleased to expand its relationship with the data center provider.

“We believe the Savvis CH4 data center in Chicago is the right place to serve as our secondary site for our three US markets because of the rich ecosystem of trading participants and cutting-edge, scalable IT services and connectivity options,” he said.

BATS is currently using a Nutley, New Jersey, data center to host DR infrastructure for its BZX equities exchange. The operator will move this equipment to Chicago and build out DR infrastructure for the other two markets by the end of 2012.
