Telehouse opens first Istanbul data center

And plans second one next year to meet growing colo demand

7 March 2011 by Penny Jones - DatacenterDynamics

Telehouse has opened a new data center in Istanbul in partnership with Teknotel Telekomunikasyon – it’s first for the region.
Telehouse plans to follow its new carrier neutral data center in Kozyatagi with a second in the region for 2012, also with Teknotel, which is acting as its local partner.
According to Teknotel general manager Alper Selcuk demand for carrier neutral data center space in Turkey is growing fast.
"Senior ICT executives who are making decisions regarding the deployment of their critical infrastructure realize that they now have a wider choice of communication solutions in Istanbul and that they can now house them more strategically and cost-effectively," Selcuk said.
The new data center sits on the Asian side of Istanbul. Telehouse business development director Andrew Fray said the site was chosen because of its closeness to Asia, and its geographical suitability for such a facility to service the region.
"Turkey is an extremely important market for us, bridging both Europe and Asia," Fray said.
"It is important for companies to locate their critical infrastructure in data centers where risk is carefully managed especially in Istanbul which faces some significant physical risk factors, such as flooding and earthquakes."
The site itself is supplied by dual power feeds and can provide 4 to 5kw per rack.
Using the Telehouse name, it will offer managed services, remote data center access and other services similar to its sites, which cover 21 cities around the world.
Operations at the new data center start this month.
