Power was shut down for about 1.5 hours at the PEER 1 data center in Toronto, following a UPS room fire late Saturday evening, early Sunday morning.

The fire was detected by PEER 1 monitoring systems at 11:26 p.m. (PDT). At the fire department's request, power was shut down on seventh and eighth floors of the building for safety reasons, according to forum posts by PEER 1's Charnell Pugsley.

Firemen avoided using water and put the fire out using dry chemical and CO2 extinguishers so no client IT equipment was damaged.

Power was restored to tenants in two suites by 1 a.m., leaving one more eighth-floor suite offline.

Pugsley's final update, saying power was being restored, came shortly after 2 a.m.

As a result of the incident, the company's clients located on the fourth floor experienced a drop in network connectivity.
