Building and running a data center is a huge financial investment for many companies. Andrew Sylvester from Schneider Electric, will be sharing his insights on the importance of data centers as a financial asset at the third DCD>Thailand annual conference. The event is set to be held at the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre, on 17 February 2017.

“It is a common mistake to see data centers purely as an operational asset and treat it as such. Financial planning and monitoring also tends to sit separately from operational planning and monitoring. Operational data collected from data centers can be vast and messy; not knowing which data is important to collect makes it difficult to quickly gather and analyse all the information needed to predict future data center performance. This results in financial plans and investment decisions focusing on supporting data center operations, when the opposite should be the case, “according to Andrew Sylvester, Regional Director, Data center software – Asia Pacific & Japan, Schneider Electric.

Maximizing ROI of data centers

The return on investment (ROI) from data centers is expected to be substantial. They are the heart of every function in an organization and everyone holds a stake in a data center’s success: from the very top of the management chain right down to the operations team who keep the data center running. Reconciling both financial and operational decisions regarding the running of data centers is the key to maximizing the ROI.

“To achieve that goal, organizations first have to adjust their view of data centers to the correct one and to see it as a financial asset. Every decision to be made should always aim to maximize ROI. The data collected from the data center should be narrowed down to the data needed to meet both financial and operational goals. This will provide a more accurate insight on data center performance and how it impacts organizational goals, leading to a more accurate forecast for future investments. This will also allow organizations to a measure any changes made against the predicted effect.” added Andrew.

Andrew Sylvester will be giving further detail on the most suitable analytical models and the IT operational practices organizations can use to maximize the ROI from data centers at DCD>Thailand 2017.
