With the increasing awareness of the data center industry, which is rapidly growing and consuming more power than entire countries, data center operators and tech giants alike recognise that smart energy usage is of both commercial and public importance.

“Focus on data center energy consumption and especially the reuse of heat is vital not only for the environment, but also for businesses to realise opportunities unlocked by the digital economy and Amsterdam is the perfect location to host a debate on the increasing role the data center will have in future energy networks”, says Stijn Grove, Managing Director at the Dutch Data Center Association who will be joining the event in June.

“Advances and innovations around open source, AI, UPS and cooling technologies as well as smart grid integration and green energy sources, is accelerating the industry towards energy efficient digital infrastructures, but there is still a lot of work to be done if the industry wants to become truly smart and integrated with smart cities or nations”.

Big business in going green

The industry needs to look not only for efficiency and innovations inside of the data center, but also outside by building partnerships with the ecosystem around the data centre such as utility grids in order to leverage on the tremendous opportunity presented by energy smart infrastructure innovations.

The Energy Smart Summit takes place in Amsterdam, one of  Europe’s most energy aware capitals, bringing business, operations and technology executives together with stakeholders from utility grids and the public sector to discuss how operators can become truly energy smart.

DCD has teamed up with the likes of  Rittal, GreenIT Amsterdam, The Dutch Data Center Association, The Green Grid, and is set to bring the data center industry together with the policymakers, regulators as well as utility executives under one roof this June.

“Replacing traditional approaches with more sustainable practices to power data centers is not only environmentally responsible, it’s intelligent business. We are excited to bring this event to Amsterdam, facilitating a platform for stakeholders within and outside of our industry to collectively find a sustainable solution to the digital infrastructure energy challenge,” says George Rocket, CEO & Co-Founder of DCD.
