Internet giants to discuss Webscale IT infrastructure adoption in the enterprise at DCD Europe’s Zettastructure on 1-2 November at the Old Billingsgate Market in London.
From hardware engineering, compute to storage and networks, hyperscalers innovation in and outside of their own data centers are paving the way for new approaches to IT infrastructure. As enterprise IT chiefs are looking to transform their business into a fully digital enterprise, DCD Europe explores the engineering and economics challenges and opportunities of webscale-level architectures in the enterprise.
“Internet giants have the firepower to reinvent approaches to architectural IT challenges brought forward by the ever-increasing digitisation of our society as they have been dealing with these challenges for years”, says Francois Sterin, Global Infrastructure Director at Google, who will be joining a panel at the event alongside China’s internet giant Baidu, Facebook, LinkedIn and Salesforce, discussing the latest architectural innovations from webscale IT and to what extent these can be leveraged by the enterprise.
Open-source and cloud paving the way for digital transformation
How webscale giants approach infrastructure engineering challenges to achieve speed, scale and agility is often built upon open source technology. The likes of Google and Facebook have developed their own approaches to hardware, compute, storage and cloud tech, most of them being built upon an open-source platform, with OCP hardware, Linux and Openstack as prime examples.
Open source is disrupting proprietary systems, providing companies with greater flexibility and opening up more options for data center cross-stack design, which is accelerating us towards the promised land of the fully automated, software-defined data center.
However is it the right move from an economies of scale standpoint? Is such adoption necessary or is the enterprise better of with different technologies such as the widely popular hyperconvergence approach? DCD Europe’s Zettastructure is set to gather IT chiefs with engineering and business backgrounds from leading webscale and enterprise organisations such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, BlackRock, Nissan, Groupon, Bank of America and many more to discuss these challenges, latest innovative approaches and tech solutions to energy efficiency, big data analytics, interconnectivity and hybrid cloud integration.
On the expo floor, the likes of Schneider Electric, Tintri, Nutanix, Facebook, Microsoft, Rittal, Nimble Storage, Huawei and many more are set to showcase their innovations.
“Looking at webscale architectural approaches as guiding examples to help with your digital transformation is definitely not a bad move, and as the giants are opening up for and sharing these innovative approaches, it can truly help enterprise IT with their key challenges in order to deliver business value in the ever-demanding digital economy”, says George Rockett, CEO & Co-Founder at DatacenterDynamics.
Registering for the event
Designed specifically for IT decision-makers from organisations that run data center-scale infrastructure, attendance is limited to 2,000 delegates this year. Pre-registration numbers are already reaching volume with early indication that the event will be heavily over-subscribed, therefore we urge qualified end-user/operators to apply for complimentary passes (under DCD’s new attendance model) as soon as they have cleared their calendars.
