American infrastructure provider Vantage Data Centers has started building its fourth facility on a campus in Santa Clara, California.

The two-story building will be able to support 6 megawatts of critical load, increasing the total capacity of the site to more than 50 megawatts.

The new data center is expected to open its doors by the end of 2016.

Supersize

Vantage was established in 2010, backed by Silver Lake Partners - one of the largest technology investors in the world. It owns and operates four data centers across two campuses, located in Santa Clara and Quincy, Washington.

Vantage acquired the 18 acre Santa Clara site from Intel in 2010. It hosted a single data center and the company promptly announced plans to build another three.

The new 6MW facility codenamed ‘V4’ will further increase the size of what is already the largest wholesale data center campus in Silicon Valley. Vantage was able to build so extensively thanks to two dedicated 50MW substations on-site.

The building will offer 30,000 square feet of white space, with features including outside air economization and 2N redundancy across its power systems.

The plans for the project have been approved by the city of Santa Clara, and the building work is due to start immediately.
