Lithuanian data center operator Duomenų Logistikos Centras (Data Logistics Center) is set to expand into Sweden, with a Tier III facility on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea.

The data center codenamed NEZ (Northern European Zone) is being built by BRS Networks, one of the fastest growing data center construction companies in Sweden.

It will use 100 percent renewable energy from nearby solar and wind farms.

Data Logistics Center is a subsidiary of Lithuanian power supplier Lietuvos Energija established in 2010. It manages more than 1,500 km of fiber covering all major Lithuanian cities, and operates several data centers across the country including Data Inn – a Tier III facility in the capital Vilnius. Data Inn was opened in 2014 and is being billed as one of the most energy-efficient IT hosting sites in the Baltic states.

The new data center in Gotland has been designed to Tier III standards and will meet “military standards for safety” - which apparently means that the building will be able to withstand a grenade explosion, an electromagnetic pulse attack or flamethrower fire.

It is set to open sometime in 2016, with a focus on large enterprise clients.

Having two facilities around 300 kilometers apart will enable Data Logistics Center to offer complete backup, availability and disaster recovery solutions.
