IntelliBatt has launched a new cabinet for batteries for data center power back-up systems. The cabinet features intelligent controls, easy monitoring of battery state and can also evacuate heat to keep the batteries cool and longer lasting.

IntelliBatt launched the product and showcased it for the first time at the DatacenterDynamics conference in New York City Tuesday.

The company’s CEO Steve Cotton said excessive heat was the biggest enemy of reliability of UPS batteries. “For every 15F above [77F], your batteries will last half as long,” he said. “That’s why they have a temperature monitor and control heat evacuation.”

“We basically evacuate the heat out of the cabinets automatically.”

Other features added to the cabinet are an integrated battery monitor, an outside breaker switch, a visual indicator of battery health visible without opening the doors and several other enhancements.

IntelliBatt now also integrates and tests the cabinets and the batteries in the factory before shipping them to customer sites as fully pre-packaged solutions.

IntelliBatt is a well-known supplier of back-up batteries to the data center industry. Its client roster includes companies like Equinix, Charles Schwab, Savvis, Digital Realty Trust and Fortune Data Centers among others, Cotton said.
