The first US transpacific broadband data and fiber hub has been completed by infrastructure provider Centeris and fiber networking specialist Wave at Puyallup, Washington State. Located at Centeris’ 86-acre datacenter campus, the Transpacific Hub (TPH) provides customer access to explore new business opportunities in the Asia Pacific region.

Following a soft launch in March, Centeris has already let 10 percent of the available space to five customers in the “gaming, content, technology, logistics, e-commerce, and financial services” markets. Of these, only Chunghwa Telecom Global (CHT Global), the US subsidiary of Taiwan’s largest telecom provider, has disclosed tenancy.

The link provides an extension to CHT Global’s Banqiao data center in Taipei as well as providing it with disaster recovery.

Seismic proportions

The Puyallup site was selected because it allowed the Centeris SH Data Center, housing 5,200 sq m (56,000 sq ft) of racks, to be built on bedrock and it therefore exceeds current seismic standards and stands 150m (500ft) above the flood plain. It has a direct connection to the Westin Building Exchange, a major telecommunications hub and colocation facility in Seattle’s Downtown Business District.

Beyond Seattle, the TPH is connected by Wave’s high-speed fiber network to California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as thenew fiber subsea cable system connection to Asia.

Patrick Knorr, Wave’s executive VP of business, said, “Integrating the power of Centeris with the connectivity of Wave provides enterprise, government and wholesale customers access to a world-class, Seattle-area facility that can also leverage data centers elsewhere or provide needed redundancy.”
