The Stock Exchange of Thailand has upgraded its storage area network (SAN) to enable low-latency, secure transportation of information between data centers.

It installed ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 3000 SAN as part of a wider upgrade that saw it consolidate its IT infrastructure with new networking and security solutions by Cisco to boost the Thai capital market’s competitiveness.

It completed the Cisco upgrade in July.

The project saw it implement Cisco’s Unified Fabric technology for virtual server interfaces and to consolidate its data center environment and allow for better traffic management.

The technology links servers with networking and storage resources, reducing requirements for adapter cards, cables and switch ports. It also allows for faster storage connections, supporting 10GbE.

ADVA said its FSP 3000, which was installed by Thai systems integrator Stream IT Consulting, is used by a number of financial exchange networks around the world.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand plans to grow on its networking capabilities to drive new products to market, ADVA said.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand president and CEO Charamporn Jotikasthira said Internet trading through the exchange is growing.

“In 2013, we expect online trading investors to grow up to 120,000 accounts,” Jotikasthira said.

He said the exchange has been enhancing its IT infrastructure to accommodate its expansion and improve services for members and investors.

He said through the Cisco consolidation project alone he believes the exchange will reduce its power use inside the data center 10%.
