Global network communications infrastructure provider CommScope is working with Qatar-based telco and broadband communications operator Ooredoo to  support an integrated, intelligent IT and facilities infrastructure at its data center. The Redwood intelligent lighting solution from CommScope enables Ooredoo to individually address, monitor and manage the lighting to improve the data center’s operational efficiency.

The Redwood solution is based on fixtures and sensors that are individually addressable. This design allows a single user to create zones and policies to attempt energy reduction. The sensor network is designed to enable Ooredoo to monitor the temperature, security, occupancy and energy usage of the lighting infrastructure in line with their energy management policies.  create a smarter data center by utilizing ‘intelligent’ LED lighting and infrastructure.

Ooredoo’s Sheik Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al-Thani said: “We have invested in technologies that can support customers’ data center hosting requirements in the next decade.”

Ooredoo claims its Qatar data center in Mesaimeer will be the first Tier III facility in the Gulf Cooperation Council to use intelligent LED lighting for data center use.The Gulf Cooperation Council is a regional intergovernmental political and economic union consisting of all Arab states of the Persian Gulf, except for Iraq.

Ooredoo implemented CommScope’s Redwood, imVision and SYSTIMAX solutions to support a fully integrated, intelligent IT and facilities infrastructure at its data center. The technology enables Ooredoo to offer an efficient, high performance environment as part of its long-term customer strategy.

Smart deployments
The Redwood lighting solution will help Ooredoo to individually address, monitor and manage the lighting to dramatically improve the operational efficiency of the Ooredoo data center according to CommScope. The application features fixtures and sensors that individually addressable and can help the Ooredoo to reduce its energy usage. The sensor network enables Ooredoo to monitor the temperature, security, occupancy and energy usage of the lighting infrastructure to establish efficient energy management policies.

The imVision connectivity management solution seamlessly integrates with Ooredoo’s process flow and business continuity policies specific to the network management, operational, active directory and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solutions. This integration provides a real-time physical connectivity guide for all networking and server hardware, as well as virtual servers.

Ooredoo claims it is the first Tier III data center in Qatar to deploy imVision to offer intelligent and manageable high speed copper and fiber cabling for all its data center offerings.
