Sidera Networks has upgraded its New York to Washington DC fiber-optic Transcom Route network to include a fiber ring bypassing downtown Washington DC through Frederick MD. It said this provides a diverse path from traditional fiber routes along the 1-95 corridor, where major congestion points exist.

Arista targets financial traders

Arista has launched a new application switch it said allows customers to run their own applications directly inside the network. The Arista Application Switch is used for equity trading systems, inline risk analysis, market data feed normalization, deep packet inspection, intelligence and advanced security.
“An order of magnitude improvement in latency is a game changer for our financial customers and is the result of allowing transparent insertion of custom applications into the data stream,” Andreas Bechtolsheim, Arista’s Chairman and Chief development Officer said.  “We achieved this . . . by combining our award-winning ultra-low latency switching technology with a fully user programmable data and control plane based on the latest FPGA technology, resulting in sub-microsecond latency application processing at a speed of up to 240m packets per second.”

Brocade’s entry level SAN switch

Brocade has released an entry-level fiber channel SAN switch called the Brocade 6505 Switch and added virtualization functionality between its adapters and switches for easier server deployment and management. The switch is configurable between 24 and 48 ports, while the virtualization functionality allows for dynamic fabric provisioning.

Brocade has also announced IBM as its first OEM partner to offer 16Gbps Fiber Channel embedded switches and adapters and stand-alone network adapters for IBM servers.

Beldon builds out connector range

Belden added new Gigabit Ethernet connectors to its Lumberg Automation product range which support data rates of up to 10Gbps. It said the connectors, with shielding covering individual wire pairs, guarantee reliable transmission even when strong electromagnetic fields are present.

UK’s Easynet focuses on access

Networking and cloud integration business Easynet in the UK has launched a range of Fiber-to-the-Cabinet access products providing broadband speeds similar to those on Local Area Networks which it said can be installed in 20 working days. It said the networks can shorten the distance between business premises and high-speed fiber connections, and can be offered outside its unbundled exchange footprint

Cannon Technologies’ new cable trays

Cannon Technologies has released a range of T4 cable trays which allow for vertical installation in its cabinets, racks and patching frames. It has also released T4 raceways for overhead cable management. It says the new products helps overcome issues of rising heat and cooling efficiency in the data center.

The raceways are matched to Cannon Technologies’ range of products in terms of fixings and cable entry/exit points and come in single-deck and double-decker versions, which allows for the segregation of cable type.

Network deployments

Brocade

International law firm Watson, Farley & Williams is using Brocade’s VDX 6720 Data Center Switches at its London headquarters for 10GbE performance. The firm said the installation has been done as part of its virtualized data center strategy, which has seen it reduce its hardware footprint with five physical IBM servers installed and Net App fabric attached storage running 88 virtual servers using VMware vSphere. It said it ensures it is prepared for rolling out 10GbE in its data center when the time arises.

Geo Networks

Geo Networks has signed its second major gaming customer, Betfair, which will take a dedicated fiber network running between two data centrs in London. Geo, which runs much of its network through London’s sewer system, said Betfair will link up two London PoPs to its data centers in Ireland.

Brand-Rex

Brand-Rex is supplying Qatar’s main healthcare provider Hamad Medical City with the entire cable system for its multi-function network used for medical care delivery. The cable will be used for telephone, data, TV, CCTV and access control as well as its video surveillance, building automation and its fire alarm system. It will be based on the Brand-Rex 10GPlus Augmented Category 6 U/FTP fiber and will offer fiber connectivity between its central energy plant and each building.
