The London Stock Exchange said its migration to its MillenniumIT trading engine went well. The high profile migration which had been postponed from last year after the Exchange suffered an outage which was blamed on human error related to maintenance of networking equipment.

Yesterday's migration saw the LSE accelerate order completion to microsecond speeds putting it in good shape to compete with the newer players including Chi-X and Bats. The LSE replaced its Tradelect system with the ┬ú40m Millennium engine. 

Last week competitor NYSEEuronext moved into an Interxion run data center in the City of London as competition to attract low latency traders speeds up. 

Also last week the LSE announced it intention to merge with the Toronto Stock Exchange.
