Defence technology company Lockheed Martin has experienced major disruptions to its computer systems, with a report by Reuters saying network security on its computer systems could be to blame.

The report quoted two sources close to the company that wished to remain unnamed as saying it was experiencing "major computer network problems".

Lockheed Martin provides information technology to the US government and a number of major military programs around the world.

According to the sources, Lockheed had notified the Pentagon of the problems and said it was resetting passwords for employees.

Lockheed Martin has a large worldwide computer network and takes great pains to ensure security is monitored across it using advanced monitoring tools, it said.

Dealing with US Government Federal Agencies, including the Ministry of Defence as well as commercial operators, its systems deal heavily with information and functions surrounding aeronautics, electronic systems including training and simulation programs and space systems including commercial satellites and strategic missiles lines of business.
