Network connectivity services provider Lightower Fiber Networks has added all-fiber connectivity to Amazon Web Services through the cloud provider's Direct Connect locations in New York City and Ashburn, Virginia.

This means customers can connect directly to the world's biggest public infrastructure cloud from all of Lightower's 7,500 service locations in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Chicago metro regions, instead of connecting through the public Internet. Direct fiber connectivity into AWS increases network throughput and application performance.

Doug Dalissandro, Lightower's chief revenue officer, said, “For any business implementing Amazon Web Services as a critical part of their overall business strategy, direct, high performance fiber connectivity becomes critical. Lightower's extensive fiber network throughout the east allows enterprises to easily connect to AWS New York City or Ashburn from their business location, data center, or anyone one of the 7,500-plus service locations we offer, or we can even build to a new location for a customer.”

The service includes Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud, Virtual Private Cloud, Simple Storage Service, DynamoDB and Relational Database Service. Lightower's service portfolio includes Ethernet services from 10 Mbps to 100 Gbps, wavelength services from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps, dark fiber and internet access.
