The East Africa Data Center has been chosen by the Telecommunications Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) to host the Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP).

Claiming to be the largest Internet Exchange Point in the region, KIXP said it enables Kenyan ISPs to exchange traffic within Kenya easily and without the need of multiple international hops.

KIXP has spent more than ten years at its previous site but said it needed to upgrade to a facility that guarantees connectivity, security and power supply to support its future growth objective.

Fiona Asonga, TESPOK CEO, said the decision was important for the Kenyan telecommunications market.

“We are extremely happy with our choice of The East Africa Data Centre.  It has an excellent reputation for quality, reliability and service,” Asonga said.

Dan Kwach, East Africa Data Center’s general manager said by keeping African data within the continent it will help to build Africa’s digital future.

The move is expected to be completed by 14 February 2014.
