Surging demand for fiber optic systems across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) has prompted comms vendor CommScope to start producing its connectivity systems at its facility in Bray, Ireland.

The company is believed to have spent around €2m on new manufacturing equipment installation and employee training.

The processes was designed and specified in house by CommScope’s own engineering teams.

Half of CommScope’s Bray workforce is now trained to make the high-speed cabling systems.

The new facility also features a 1,800 sq ft Technology Innovation Center that incorporates a research and development laboratory and a solution demonstration area.

The Bray facility occupies 130,000 sq ft and employs 180 people.

David Gilmore, CommScope’s VP of global operations said the Bray facility will be the first fiber cabling manufacturer in Ireland.

"This is a tremendous step in expanding our reach in supplying end-to-end connectivity solutions for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region,” Gillmore said.

In March, CommScope announced that it was to compete with IBM, Dell and HOP by making purpose built modular data centers.
