China Telecom has increased its European network coverage by taking a point of presence (PoP) in TelecityGroup’s AMS 5 data center in Amsterdam, a facility that also includes the Amsterdam Internet Exchange, AMS-IX. The PoP will give China Telecom’s clients access to TelecityGroup's international customer base and extend the telco’s services in Europe.

The telco has the world’s largest fixed-line communications network with operations and investments in Asia Pacific, America and the EMEA region. The new Amsterdam hub adds to European network presences already established at TelecityGroup facilities in London, Stockholm and Milan.

The Amsterdam PoP will cater for additional connectivity demands driven by the increasing uptake of networking services by the telco’s enterprise clients, according to its European MD. The use of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange, with its commitment to open standards, will also give TelecityGroup’s customers access to peering options from the facility and a wider range of connectivity, said Charlie Cao, China Telecom’s European MD.

“Our newly added PoP in Amsterdam is a hub of intercontinental links,” said Cao, “this collaboration will play a pivotal role in offering our Euro-Asia network solutions and hosting services. This will significantly enhance our data transmission and delivery.”

Amsterdam is now is one on Europe’s key digital and technology hubs, said Alexandra Schless, TelecityGroup’s VP for western Europe. “Demand for high quality infrastructure and network services is constantly growing. Securing the presence of premium carriers like China Telecom ensures our customers have access to the connectivity they need.”

In August China Telecom and software giant SAP jointly created a cloud data center in Shanghai that will deliver SAP’s first public cloud product – SuccessFactors HCM – to the Chinese market.

The move extended the collaboration between the two companies, who previously worked together to offer mobile device management services to the operator’s enterprise customers.
