Power and cooling specialist Vertiv has launched Liebert EXS, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with the smallest footprint in its class.

The Liebert EXS can support 10, 15 or 20kVA of equipment and promises double conversion efficiency of up to 96.2 percent.

Vertiv was known as Emerson Network Power until 2016, when Emerson decided to sell the division to Platinum Equity and its partners for $4 billion in cash.

Small is beautiful

The Liebert brand was born in 1965 when Liebert Corporation became the world’s first dedicated manufacturer and designer of computer room air conditioning systems. Today, it is part of Vertiv’s core business, responsible for power distribution and cooling equipment.

The Liebert EXS is a monolithic, transformerless UPS in a small form-factor that can house up to four battery strings. According to Vertiv, the device can reduce the space required for power backup by up to 50 percent, when compared to products from its competitors.

It features integrated input and output breakers and tolerates high ambient temperatures, with maximum active power possible in conditions of up to 40 degrees Celsius.

The Liebert EXS is fully compatible with Vertiv’s Life Services support and maintenance program, and its Trellis Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software. However, availability of the product is initially limited to Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“At Vertiv we are continuously investing and developing new technologies to ensure that we are offering the best solutions to our customers,” said Giovanni Zanei, ‎director of AC Power product marketing for Vertiv in EMEA.

“Limited floor space and high operating costs are constant pressures, which is why the Liebert EXS has been designed to save on space and energy. Being built on a global platform, this UPS ensures standardization and optimal performances for global customers who want to cut TCO and footprint.”

Earlier this year, Vertiv launched its highest density UPS – Liebert EXL S1, a 60Hz transformerless system that can protect up to 1200 kW of IT equipment, and operates at 97 percent efficiency in double conversion mode.
