Emerson Network Power has launched a range of new NetSure DC power systems designed for network core sites.

Emerson claims the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems can stop cautious telecoms companies wasting money on over purchasing to accommodate phantom power loads.

The NetSure 7100 and NetSure 8100 models are multi-cabinet systems, with the NetSure 7100 also coming as a stand-alone system.

Both models offer converged AC and DC power options.

The design objective was to improve and secure reliability in core sites, according to Emerson, which says it has achieved this with a new controller that provides intelligent load management, which provides early warnings over potential overload.

A new site energy consumption map will help data centers to cut their cooling expenses too, Emerson said.

Though reliability will always be the top priority in big facilities like a telco, it is possible to cut the power provision without risk, according to Emerson.

“For decades telecom providers have over-provisioned to accommodate phantom loads,” said Thomas Bennett, VP of product management at Emerson’s energy systems business.

Telcos could use intelligent load management to monitor systems and use that information to make better decisions on each load on a site, since changes in load will be detected instantly. Failures can also be prevented, he said.

“Intelligent load management changes the way we think about power system reliability at core sites,” said Bennett.

These four systems are now available Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
