Russian cloud and colocation provider DataLine has opened the first phase one of its latest data center in the suburb of Khimki, Moscow.

The NORD-4 facility will initially offer space for 504 racks across two data halls. DataLine hopes to quadruple this number by February 2016, making it the largest project it has ever undertaken.

NORD of Moscow

DataLine is Russia’s largest operator of commercial data centers, with all facilities designed to Tier III specifications. It owns two campuses in Moscow codenamed ‘NORD’ and ‘OST’ that already offer 16,453 square meters of white space – enough to host 3,200 racks.

The company started building an expansion to the NORD campus in summer 2013, to keep with the demand for capacity. Once complete, the four-floor building will offer 11,700 square meters of server space, and support equipment load of up to 16MW.

NORD-4 uses STULZ CyberCool 2 chillers with a free cooling option, and STULZ Cyber Air CRACs. It is connected to two independent power grids, for full 2N redundancy.

Just like other DataLine facilities, NORD-4 is built to Tier III specifications – but the company doesn’t want to stop there, and plans to obtain facility and operational sustainability certificates too.
