BaseLayer, the modular data center technology firm which is in the process of spinning out of data center provider IO, now has a UK and Ireland distributor: Finning.

Finning, which already handles Caterpillar diesel gensets and other power supply kit is now the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland of BaseLayer’s EDGE modules which were originally created under the IO.Anywhere brand, and have been used in various US sites and elsewhere.

“BaseLayer’s data center infrastructure has been adopted by some of the most demanding enterprise technology users in the world,” said Ian Wilcoxson, manager for deata center power at Finning. “The standardised modules, built using lean manufacturing principles, deliver high levels of reliability, security and efficiency.”

Power play
Known for energy and power solutions, Finning is branching out into IT, and can supply entire data centers with this deal.

BaseLayer’s product is particularly known for the ability to handle integration with the power grid. For instance, in Phoenix Arizona, BaseLayer modules are connected directly to the grid by public utility Salt River Project.

The BaseLayer modules can be installed indoors or outdoors, and come with a data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solution, which the company says will let companies put a data center anywhere and still be able to control it and analyse its performance metrics.

As part of IO, BaseLayer has installed data centers installed in New Jersey, Ohio, Denver and elsewhere. In 2013, it selected Tranctors Machinery International (TMI) as a distributor in Singapore , Malaysia and Brunei.
