The Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) and the Eco Industrial Development Company of Tobago (E-IDCOT) are reportedly planning a data center at the Cove Eco-Industrial and Business Park (CEIBP) in Western Tobago, which they intend to certify as Tier 3 per ANSI/TIA-942 standard.

The facility will be the first data center on the 116 square mile (300 sq km) island, and will be located few miles outside of its largest city and capital, Scarborough.

TSTT and E-IDCOT will operate as a joint venture under a new name, Nuklyus Tobago Company Limited.

Its designated chairman, Wendell Berkley, told local publication Newsday the facility would meet “growing local demand” for “data center-based services,” offering both wholesale colocation and managed services.

Deputy Chairman of E-IDCOT, Kamau Akili, added that the facility would also provide a secure environment for companies, helping protect information in the event of a natural disaster, as Caribbean islands are particularly vulnerable during the Atlantic hurricane season.
