Singapore-based Keppel Telecommunications &Transportation and Keppel Land, both part of the Keppel Group, have formed a joint venture (JV) that will see their data center assets consolidated at an initial cost of SGD$30m.

The JV has brought about a new company, Keppel Data Centres Holding, for which Keppel Land will own 30% and Keppel T&T the rest. It now has control of the Keppel Datahub and Keppel Digihub carrier-neutral Tier 3 data centers previously owned by the two companies.

Keppel T&T CEO Pan Hee Hon said the company plans to expand its data center services, which under the Keppel T&T branding have focussed on logistics and data center operations under a colocation model.

Keppel Land, meanwhile, handles property fund management and is one of the largest property companies on the Singapore Stock Exchange.

"By consolidating resources of manpower, processes and systems, we can potentially enjoy greater economies of scale and provide our customers with better and more cost-efficient solutions," Hee Hon said.

"Management of our data centers under one entity also allows us to provide stronger business continuity and disaster recovery services to customers who wish to house their BCDR (business continuity and disaster recovery) facilities in different locations."

Keppel Data Centers Holding now manages 150,000 sq ft of data center and BCDR space.
