Data Foundry brings Texas 1 online
US colocation provider Data Foundry launched its Austin, Texas, data center, bringing online first phase of the 250,000-sq-ft facility. The site's first tenants have started moving in, the company said in a news release.

This is the company's second data center in Austin and its third one in Texas (it has one in Houston). The site is served electricity from two independent utility substations and provides access to about 17 network carriers.

Malta's government expanding capacity
Agency that provides IT services to the government of Malta is investing Ôé¼7.3m into a new data center to address growing requirements for hosting space, driven by the government's upcoming new ICT initiatives. This will be the Malta Information Technology Agency's third data center.

The two existing data centers are about 84% occupied, supporting about 700 physical and virtualized servers, according to a MITA news release. The new data center is expected to accommodate demand growth for about 10 years.

The data center's total footprint will be about 27,000 sq ft. It will be served by two dedicated electrical substations, backed up by two generators. A 20kW photovoltaic plant will supplement its energy supply.

New ICT initiatives include a new eGovernment platform, eLearning, eHealth and eID cards.

Uganda government centralizes IT services in new data center
The government of Uganda launched a new data center that will host centralized infrastructure for government applications, including messaging and collaboration systems, New Vision reported.

The facility features redundant infrastructure, biometrics-based access-control systems and environmental monitoring.
