In this video, Lex Coors, Chief Engineering Officer at Interxion, talks about industry standards and the need for innovation in the data centre market.

Industry certifications are often treated as though they ‘must’ be followed to the letter, but as Lex argues, not if following them means sacrificing on efficiency or holding back on innovating to achieve higher availability.

Lex explains how Interxion analysed the Uptime Institute standards, and concluded that Tier 3 was not good enough and Tier 4 not economically viable. Using the software program Analyst, Lex proved through Monte Carlo studies that the same Tier 4 statistical availability can be achieved by using a different design.
