US managed hosting provider Webair has opened a new flagship data center and headquarters in Garden City, New York. The company bought the data center from JetBlue, an airline that used the facility to run its flight operations.

The data center provides 50,000 sq ft of high-density space and features power and cooling infrastructure with N+1 redundancy levels. The facility also houses Webair’s network operations center, staffed around the clock.

Webair CEO Michael Orza said the company had implemented measures to increase the facility’s energy efficiency, including a cooling system that uses free cooling.

“All our environmental systems are N+1 redundant, and the high-tech facility provides us the most reliability for our servers and allows us the ability to provide the highest level of service and space to support our growth.”

The site has access to more than 180Gbps of network capacity and redundant fiber routes. It includes a meet-me room for clients and network providers. The carriers include Level 3, Global Crossing, AboveNet, Lightower, XO Communications and Verizon.

Dubbed NY1, this is one of several Webair data centers around the world. The company also operates facilities in Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Montreal.
